Caterpillar unveils revised 973 crawler loader

The manufacturer boasts that its new 973 track loader has versatility, enhanced fuel efficiency, productivity enhancements and ergonomic cab improvements.

Replacing the 973K model, the machine has been engineered for a myriad of tasks. Equipped with a 275 hp (205 kW) Cat C9.3B engine and an operating weight of 29 892 kg, Cat says is marketing it as the flagship of its track loader line.

The 973 prioritises agility and operator convenience. The updated cab features a suspension seat, adjustable armrests and controls, ensuring comfort during extended work periods.

A 10-inch touchscreen dash display, complete with a HD rearview camera simplifies navigation and enhances safety on the job site.

Operators can choose between joystick or V-lever and pedal steering for transmission controls, as well as joystick or two-lever implement controls, catering to individual preferences and familiarity.

Customizable preset functions help with repetitive tasks like lift, lower, rack, dump, and float, minimising operator fatigue.

Caterpillar says that efficiency is the cornerstone of its design philosophy. Up to 10 percent better fuel efficiency is claimed for the machine. This is attributed to the Auto Mode that adjusts engine speed according to the load so operators can achieve significant cost savings over time.

There is a built in ‘Eco Mode’ that further reduces fuel consumption in lighter duty applications, while the ‘Power Mode’ ensures consistent power for dmanding tasks.

The Cat 973 further offers optional Performance Series buckets, claimed to increasie efficiency by up to 20 percent.
